In dem Beitrag wird die These geprüft, dass sich die Darstellung ökologischen Handelns kollektiver Akteure in den Medien auf das ökologische Handeln der Rezipienten auswirkt, weil durch die mediale Darbietung von Modellen soziale Normen gefördert werden, die sich positiv auf die umweltbezogene Handlungsbereitschaft auswirken können. Um diesen möglichen Medienwirkungseffekt empirisch systematisch zu untersuchen, wurde am Beispiel des Themas Plastikmüllvermeidung ein Experiment im 2x3-Design (plus Kontrollgruppe) durchgeführt, bei dem die soziale Nähe der medial dargestellten Akteure auf zwei Dimensionen (Ebene und Rolle der Akteure) variiert wurde. Die Ergebnisse zeigen nur geringe Effekte der Variation. Positiv wirkt primär, dass überhaupt ökologisch handelnde Akteure dargestellt werden. Bei einer getrennten Betrachtung von Personen mit hohem oder niedrigem Umweltbewusstsein zeigt sich, dass bei niedrigem Umweltbewusstsein nur die Darstellung ökologischer Aktivitäten von Akteuren, die den Befragten sozial besonders nahe stehen (zivilgesellschaftliche Akteure auf Organisationsebene), eine positive Wirkung auf die individuelle Handlungsbereitschaft entfaltet.
This article examines, whether the depiction of ecological activities of collective actors in the media may have an impact on the ecological behavioral intentions of the recipients. The presentation of these actors in the media may underpin social norms and generate positiv effects on personal ecological behavior. To investigate these possible media effects a 2x3 experimental design (plus a control group) was applied using the issue of plastic waste. In the experiment two dimensions of social proximity of the depicted actors were variegated (level and type of actor). The fi ndings indicate that the variations of level and type have only minor effects. Not the proximity of the actors shows an effect, but the fact that an ecological behaving actor is depicted at all. Comparing people with high and low environmental consciousness it was detected, that in the case of low consciousness only the depiction of actors with high social proximity (actors from lower levels of civil society) had a positive effect on individual behavioral intentions.
