Although fullerene derivatives have been used in numerous biological systems their interaction mechanism with these structures is almost unknown. The functionalization of fullerenes with fluorescent dyes should be able to contribute to the elucidation of these mechanisms.For the functionalization reactions different dyes have been selected, which are derived from either a fluorescein or an aniline structure. These dyes functionalized with amino- or isothiocyanate groups have been reacted with fullerocarboxylic acids or acid chlorides as well as fulleropyrrolidines to form dye-functionalized C60- and C70-derivatives. In preliminary studies with a model membrane the dye-functionalized fullerene derivatives have shown unequal behavior and interesting fluorescence properties. Allowing the attachment of dyes which have no amino functions available, various synthetic routes for the introduction of amino groups on the fullerene surface have been examined, ranging from the reaction of amino-functionalized diazomethanes to the attachment of glykoldiamines. The functionalization of fullerenes with glykoldiamines is connected to the synthesis of fullerene derivatives which show a significantly improved solubility in polar media or even water and can also be functionalized with dyes. About this synthetic method a class of compounds could be synthesized which has enormous potential for biological and medical applications.}, url = {https://www.db-thueringen.de/receive/dbt_mods_00022549}, url = {http://uri.gbv.de/document/gvk:ppn:751417564}, file = {:https://www.db-thueringen.de/servlets/MCRZipServlet/dbt_derivate_00027886:TYPE}, language = {de} }
