As a rule heuristic methods will be used in this case. These methods contain normally several parameters to control the way the method works. It is difficult to determine the values of these parameters because there are non linear interactions between the parameters which have to be considered. Besides the optimal parameter value depends on the actual problem to solve. This thesis describes a way to adjust the parameters of a planning system based on expertise. The parameterisation will be carried out before each planning run. After the parameterisation the planning system will be adjusted for the actual problem. The parameter values to be used will be determined with cased based reasoning. The expertise in the underlying case base will be automatically obtained with a new algorithm for continuous knowledge acquisition. For known planning problems the best parameter values will be determined and together with the problem description saved in the case base. An important advantage of the developed algorithm is that except of the knowledge of the planning system and planning problems from the past no additional expertise is necessary.
